Honor Through Obedience
By Dr. Robert E. Brogdon | May 3, 2010
Does God’s Word Weigh Heavy in Our Lives? Are we honoring Him?1 Samuel 2:30, “Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” If God’s Word weighs heavy in our lives, it is the final authority. It should lead and guide us in all decision making. “We honor God when we submit ourselves to the Word.” “In the natural, if your children obey you, they are honoring you.” When we obey God and are being led by His Spirit, we are honoring Him. We are told to renew our mind to the Word of God so that we can be led by His Spirit. “Being led by the Spirit is when your spirit and God’s Spirit become one.” It is running our thoughts through the Word of God. “Every thought has to be judged by the Word of God.” “If your thoughts line up with Gods Word, your spirit and God’s Spirit are on the same page.” “You have got to get your thoughts in line with God’s thoughts and your life in line with God’s life so that can be obedient.” We honor God when we highly esteem His Everlasting Covenant. “The covenant has to be highly esteemed, not lightly esteemed.” “The everlasting covenant from God is not everlasting in the homes of most Christians because we have lightly esteemed what is important to God. So goes the home, so goes the Church.” “To lightly esteem means to look at lightly; not much attention given to.” “There are a lot of hurting people in the Church because they have never been taught what is right in the home.” “God established the marriage first, then He built the Church.”
“Society has trained us to fail in relationships. We go out with; go steady; and break up until we find the right person. We are in and out of relationships and join ourselves to people. (soul ties)” “We have a genetically altered Church because we have lightly esteemed what is important to God.” In the natural, our food has been genetically altered. Our livestock is loaded with antibiotics and steroids which we intake when we eat. The original genetic structure of our fruit and vegetables no longer exist. We consume only small amounts of the nutrition we are suppose to which leads to growth defects and diseases. Our spiritual food has also been altered. The Word has been changed to justify disobedience. The Word has been “lightly esteemed”, or not paid much attention to”. When we lightly esteem the Covenant, we in turn are lightly esteemed by God. “God has got to be number one in our lives if we are going to have an everlasting covenant with Him.”
When we disobey the Word, we rebel against and disrespect Him. In 1 Samuel 2:30, the word despise means dispute or rebel against. “If the Word says don’t do it, and we do it, we are dishonoring God and there is no justification.” “Disobedience is the same as witchcraft. You cannot cast a spell and try to change His Word. He is not going to allow someone to ride a broom in His Kingdom. “ “Disrespect creates an atmosphere of tension and there are no blessings. Tension leads to problems.” “When things go wrong in our lives, we should evaluate whether we are dishonoring God in anyway.” We dishonor God when we are led by emotions or past experiences.
“Your experiences can be the driving force behind your life. Most people don’t honor God in their lives because of past experiences. “Feelings and emotions do not bring direction and empowerment. They will not keep you grounded.” This is why we are told to renew our minds with the Word because feelings cannot justify what is of the Spirit. “God will honor us if we honor His Word.” “If you choose to keep your mind on God’s Word when making decisions, God is going to honor you because you honored Him.” “God is looking for people who will separate themselves and be led by His Word.” “Tell yourself daily, ‘I am teachable; I will learn today because I am going to listen to God’s Spirit. I am going to obey God’s Spirit and not my flesh’.”
